Why These Stories Matter

Listen to the stories that often go unheard.
They reveal the ongoing realities of racism, colonialism, and inequality that exist. Listening is how we confront the truth beneath the national myth.

Remember that these stories are not isolated.
They are part of a long history of harm and resistance. They remind us that forgetting is a privilege we cannot afford, and guide us to a more just future.

Confess the truths that have been buried.
They reveal that this land carries stories of displacement, violence, and survival. Only when Canada owns its wrongdoing can healing, and real change begin.

About the Artwork
This piece reflects the experience of belonging to a community on Native land and honours the resilience that grows through shared experience. Intertwined hands and vines symbolize connection and collective strength, while the rose represents resilience through challenge.
The woman's blank face invites viewers to see themselves in the work and reflect on how discrimination and colonial systems affect people living on Indigenous land.
