Hello! We're thrilled to have you in our RWL Community of Learners. We value your active participation and want to ensure your experience in our sessions and forums is enriching and positive. To ensure this, we've put together guidelines to help us maintain a supportive atmosphere for all. By following these guidelines, you're contributing to a space where everyone can learn and engage constructively. Per our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion, we take hate speech and confidentiality violations very seriously, which may result in the termination of membership and reporting to the appropriate authorities. Disagreements are natural and welcomed as long as they are addressed respectfully and will not lead to guideline breaches. Thanks for your cooperation! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.(http://canadaconfesses.ca/contact-us) Learning Mindset • Foster Curiosity: Approach discussions openly to broaden your knowledge and viewpoints. RWL strives to provide diverse perspectives and tools that encourage exploration rather than offering absolute solutions. • Mutual Learning: Recognize that each participant is both a learner and contributor. Embrace the roles of both student and teacher, fostering an environment where valuable insights are shared among all members. • Facilitators Are Learners: Our facilitators aren't experts; we're here to learn alongside you. While we aim for the best, we're not immune to mistakes, so please hold us accountable with respect. • Privilege & Discomfort: Recognize that, like everyone else, you possess privilege and embrace the inevitable discomfort or awkwardness accompanying learning. Understanding your discomfort can foster meaningful dialogues on social issues. • Continuous Learning: Challenge your existing ideas, cultivate critical thinking, and don’t assume you possess all the answers. Strengthen your media literacy skills to discern misinformation and navigate flawed argumentative styles. Group Communication Ethics • Active Listening: Demonstrate active listening to truly understand and respect fellow participants. Stay engaged in a manner that aligns with your learning style—whether through taking notes, using a fidget tool, or muting your microphone when others are speaking. • Speak From Your Experience: Offer insights rooted in your own experiences. Recognize that you can't represent others—share what you know personally, avoiding assumptions about others' viewpoints. • Intent vs. Impact: While good intentions are important, remember that negatively received comments can still impact others. Take responsibility for both your intentions and the potential effects of your words. • Share Space: Provide space for others to voice their opinions and experiences. Be mindful of minimizing interruptions, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully. Expressing Disagreement • Disagree with a Learning Mindset: Express differences of opinion with respect and a desire to learn from diverse viewpoints. Use phrases like: "Could you provide more insight into your viewpoint? From my perspective..." "I have a different view, so I'd like to understand more..." • Welcome Ambiguity: Recognize diverse viewpoints and counterarguments. Seek clarification while understanding that some discussions might not lead to definitive conclusions, given the complex nature of the topics. • Practice Understanding: Seek understanding of others' experiences and ideas. Actively listen, ask genuine questions, and avoid making hasty judgments without proper context. If you encounter unfamiliar terms or topics, feel free to request clarifications. Unacceptable Conduct  • Zero Tolerance for Discrimination: Deliberate use of derogatory or prejudiced language, hate speech, slurs, stereotypes, and microaggressive or disrespectful comments targeting individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and other attributes is prohibited. • Zero Tolerance for Harassment: Harassment, bullying, or any behaviour causing distress or harm to participants, including online intimidation, threats, or repeated unwanted interactions, is prohibited. Confidentiality & Safety • Privacy Is Key: Information shared in our private virtual meetings and discussion forums remains within our community — any unauthorized sharing of personal information, images, or content without explicit consent is strictly prohibited, respecting individuals' privacy. • Report Incidents: If you witness or experience any behaviour that threatens safety or breaches confidentiality, promptly report it to the moderators or facilitators for swift action.
