Why I Volunteered with Canada Confesses

Canada Confesses is an online-based project committed to addressing the social injustices that have occurred and are currently ongoing in Canada. We are dedicated to supporting and fighting for the human rights of marginalized groups of Canadians who experience inequalities. The goal of Canada Confesses is to ensure that equity is upheld in Canada and to promote social justice and change. We are always listening to the Voices of Canada to make a difference in our communities. At Canada Confesses, we value peace, justice, and strong institutions and challenge prejudice and discrimination.

Would you want to give back to your community in a meaningful and enriching way by volunteering?

I would, and I did so by choosing to volunteer with Canada Confesses.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I realized I had time to volunteer and came across Canada Confesses’ website. I was happy to discover that Canada Confesses’ mission aligned with my values. Because I am a firm believer in the power of social justice, I quickly filled out the volunteer application form. I knew that I would be doing incredibly worthwhile volunteer work to address social injustice issues. I learned from my grandfather the joy of doing volunteering and charity work at a young age. My grandfather was a kind and generous man who had great compassion for marginalized people in his communities. I would like to continue my grandfather’s spirit by helping people and making a real difference in society.

I had a great onboarding experience meeting the Founders of Canada Confesses. I am incredibly impressed with the warmth and professionalism of the Canada Confesses team in their presentation of the project. By volunteering as a content creator, I hope to assist Canada Confesses in building an inclusive, sustainable, and equitable online platform with other volunteers.

At Canada Confesses, we are here to listen, learn, and act. We want to know about your experiences and ideas that can help us tackle social injustice issues such as systemic racism. We strive to work together with other like-minded individuals in our movement to promote equality and justice in Canada. We hope that you can join us on this journey.

Land Affirmation: While our project operates online, our volunteers come from different provinces and territories across Canada. We acknowledge and honour the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who own the lands we are privileged to call home. We celebrate Indigenous sovereignty and support the 94 recommendations from the Truth & Reconciliation Commission (TRC). We recognize our role in reconciliation and commit to tackling ongoing systemic injustices.
